How lame is it that I’ve glazed over my own 1 year anniversary? Me, who has never been able to keep a diary if her life depended on it, has managed to stick with a blog for a little over a year. I’m pretty sure the last time I had a journal was in second grade and it was a composition book that had a self-made reinforced cover from a Corn Pops box. Boo-effing-yah.
I’ve come a long way since the summer of 2010. I started reading romance, pool-side, in Atlantic City. I was a novice, a fledgling barely toeing the edge of the vast open sky that is the romance genre. Now…well, I have a better idea how to navigate, but lord knows I still have a lot to learn.
I went to my first library book sale in 2012 yesterday, and I had an existential moment of observation. My browsing style has changed drastically. I know who and what to look for, as opposed to last year where I felt overwhelmed. I also found myself passing over a good amount of books I’ve already read (I need a damn merit badge or something). I picked up books I otherwise likely wouldn’t have considered. I bought more contemporary romances than historical, a big change from last year. I found myself picking up books with the goal of eventually featuring them on TRD.
I want to thank all my readers for tagging along my on journey thus far. It’s really been a lot of fun. I look forward to what the future brings as well. I’ve enlisted the help of some fellow bibliophiles and I’m working to get reviews of audio books and other genres posted. Mr. RaunchyRyan finished The Night Circus but I DIDN’T. I mean c’mon, right?!? Bitch pleeze. He encouraged me to include a “literary fiction” category, but the only books I’d consider including there are one’s he’s read (so far, anyway). Write me a review dammit! He’s stalling, but I know where he sleeps, so…we’ll see on that one.
What I want to know is, what do you guys want to see more of? How do you find what books you want to read? Where do you go? Bookstores? Amazon? Goodreads? What’s your opinion on giveaways?
I’ve got plans for The Raunch Dilettante for 2012. There are some excellent books coming out in the future, and I look forward to sharing them. In the meantime, I’ve GOT to clear out my bookshelves, so next week keep an eye out for my celebratory giveaway!
And as always, my fellow raunchers, keep it classy.
P.S. – If you can figure out what book I’m holding above, major e-props to you.
