Redonk Nutshell: Tough as nails alien huntress meets her match when she reluctantly teams up with an alien to solve a murder

Mia Snow is a badass huntress who brings down rogue aliens at any means necessary. She’d good at what she does and she knows it. When a murder spree begins in New Chicago and the culprit looks to be a Big Bad kind of alien, they bring in Mia to investigate.  When Mia’s partner is near fatally injured, the only hope for his survival is accepting the help of an Arcadian alien, Kyrian. It starts to get uber complicated when Kyrian begins to look like a suspect, and even more complicated when Mia can no longer fight her attraction to him.

This is a great first book in a super cool series by Gena Showalter.  Known for her Lords of the Underworld series, Ms. Showalter takes a different direction with her Alien Huntress series.  It’s an urban fantasy crossed with science fiction, a fun and kickass mix that lets us follow the story of Mia and her bizarre adventures. Mia’s repertoire with her coworkers is pretty amusing, and the supporting cast is as fascinating as our main characters are.

The attraction between Kyrian and Mia nearly jumps off the page from the first moment they meet.  In typical Gena Showalter style it simmers slow and steady until you’re about bursting to full for a substantial…er…climax. If there’s one thing a book by Ms. Showalter is guaranteed to have its sexual tension.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this book. It’s fun, it’s funny, and it’s sexy.  What I like about this series is the following books are about different characters, though we see glimpses of Mia and Kyrian from time to time. I actually read Ecstasy in Darkness first, which is a long way’s from the first book in the series, and I didn’t have any problems following along in the plot.  I’m sure if I went back and re-read it I’d pick up on things I missed the first time around, knowing what I know now.
