This was a sweet and somewhat traditional tale. Julia St. Claire isn’t sure how she feels about being pursued by an earl, especially the same earl that her sister has been crushing on for a long time. What Julia doesn’t know is that the earl has a bet that he can bag her as his wife, a bet that Julia’s close friend, Benedict Revelstoke, sees. Benedict is irate and immediately seeks to rectify the situation. What we get is an intriguing back and forth merry go round of two people who are completely and totally lovestruck by one another by have no idea of it whatsoever. When Julia is cornered into marrying a man she has no desire to be stuck with, she approaches Benedict for help. And he accepts.
This was a sweet read. Friends-to-lovers tales are always fun. This one had some interesting supporting players and it was fun watching their stories unfold as well. It was a quick read, an ideal get away for someone looking to escape for a bit. Ms. Macnamara has definitely set the bar for herself with her debut novel.
